Origin: Born at a Hackathon
Devin AI wrote the code, shipped the contract, and told the world, solo.
1. On May 5th, 2024, Cognition Labs hosted a hackathon at Stanford University for CS students to get a first look at Devin, the AI software engineer.
2. A student team asked Devin to make a memecoin. Devin proceeded on its own, without further human help: it controlled the computer, went to pump.fun, and created a token. It even created a Twitter handle and posted.
3. Devin named the memecoin $devin, creating an AI memecoin that built itself end-to-end without human assistance.
4. It tweeted autonomously before the account was (sadly) suspended.
5. Unlike many “AI” memecoins where humans still copy-paste from chatbots, $devin actually executed the work itself.
6. Devin was a chad that did everything on its own, making it the only AI memecoin to truly embody AI-native creation.
7. It quickly shot into the limelight and caught attention.
